FAQs

  • Momentia is a grassroots movement (first launched in Seattle) that empowers persons living with memory loss and care partners to remain connected and active in the community.

For too long, a dementia diagnosis has brought stigma, social isolation, and despair. We are reimagining dementia and telling a new story of connection, growth, purpose and joy in the moment.

This new story is being told throughout our community— in our parks, theaters, libraries, museums, community centres, and cafes – as our vibrant public spaces become venues for a growing number of “dementia-inclusive” opportunities to join walking groups, art gallery tours, and enjoy music and dance programs.

It’s a story we can all be a part of. Together, we will transform what it means to live with dementia in our community.

  • Momentia grows as everyone in the community works together!

Spread the word: about Momentia in your neighborhood, workplace, congregation or more! Help persons living with dementia and their care partners learn about the movement and get involved. This can be as simple as telling someone else about this website .

Volunteer: at one of the dementia-inclusive programs listed here. To get involved, reach out to the contact person/organization listed.

Advocacy: Help start a dementia-inclusive program in your neighborhood. Some of the most unique opportunities – like theater improv workshops and gardening volunteer program – have been suggested by participants.

Donate: to support any of these opportunities or Momentia as a whole. Donations help cover program costs like materials, refreshments, and other essentials. Donations to Momentia can be made through Dr. Debra Sheets (School of Nursing, Univ of Victoria, dsheets@uvic.ca).
